About Us
At Apex Drivers School, we are dedicated to providing high-quality driving instruction throughout the Greater Charleston area. Our program is led by a retired U.S. Army Military Police veteran with over twenty years of service as a municipal police officer in South Carolina and three years of experience as a certified driving instructor. With this unique background, we bring both professionalism and real-world expertise to every lesson. We also understand that every student learns differently, so we offer flexible scheduling—whether you prefer fast-paced sessions or a slower, more relaxed approach, we’ll tailor the training to meet your needs.
Learn to Drive at our James Island Location
Teen Basic Driving Course: $650
(8) hours classroom and (6) hours behind-the-wheel training. Convenient home pick-up and drop-off*.
Teen Advanced Driving Course: $750
Everything included in the Teen Basic Driving Course with an additional (2) hours behind-the-wheel lesson for confidence and experience.
Adult Driving Course $600
(8) hours classroom and (6) hours behind-the-wheel training. Convenient home pick-up and drop-off*.
Third Party Testing
We are scheduled for Third Party Tester certification through the SC DMV in early January and expect to be certified prior to the January 10th class.

Because of heavy traffic during certain periods, some days and times may be unavailable for this service. Our pickup and drop-off service is currently offered within the Charleston city limits, western Mount Pleasant, and southern North Charleston. For students outside these areas, convenient meeting locations (SC DMV Offices) can be arranged at flexible times.

We are share-leasing a modern classroom at a private school on James Island.
- Complete the enrollment contract and pay the fee for a class date
- Attend the (8) hour classroom instruction 8am-5pm, lunch is provided
- Schedule driving lessons anytime after the fee is paid
- Driving lessons are typically (2) hours in duration, but that is flexible
- For minor students, parental permission is required for scheduling lessons
Our driving school uses a late model Toyota Camry, that is equipped with dual brakes and mirrors for your safety. There is a washable cover on the driver's seat. The vehicle is sanitized after each lesson.
No, you do not need to have a learner's permit before enrolling in driving lessons with Apex Drivers School.
If you've met the permit requirements set by the SC DMV, you will be eligible to test for your license. We'll provide all the necessary forms for U.S. citizens. Foreign students will be provided a checklist for DMV forms.
We are scheduled for that training and certification in early January 2026.

Availability depends on your location, the day of the week, and the time of your lesson. Certain areas—such as John’s Island, northern West Ashley, eastern Mount Pleasant, and northern Charleston County—are difficult to access during most weekday afternoons. Within the city limits of Charleston, western Mount Pleasant, and southern North Charleston, we offer convenient home pickup and drop-off, or we can meet at another agreed-upon location. For students outside these areas, lessons typically begin and end at either the North Charleston DMV or the Mount Pleasant DMV.
Once again, availability depends on your location, the day of the week, and the time of your lesson. Areas such as John’s Island, northern West Ashley, eastern Mount Pleasant, and northern Charleston County are not practical for driving instruction at times because of heavy traffic congestion. Sitting in gridlock doesn’t provide valuable learning time, and our goal is to maximize every minute behind the wheel. We generally schedule lessons from Sunday through Thursday but can make exceptions when needed.
Lessons can be completed in as little as one week. It depends on how flexible the student is with time.
For the protection of the school and students, the training vehicle is equipped with a (3) channel video and audio camera system (front, rear and cabin facing cameras). The recording file is held for (4) weeks unless necessary for legal investigations. No video is released to the public, or used for training at any time.
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration (Science)
- Completed (2) (80) hour instructor courses in the military and at the SC Police Academy
- Completed (40) hour Driver Education Course and (40) hour Driver Safety Course at Eskine College
- Both a military and municipal police officer for (20) years
- Taught driver's training in the Charleston area for (3) years
- Licensed to driver vehicles from two to eighteen wheels

Apex Drivers School is committed to delivering high-quality driving instruction and maintaining transparency in all financial transactions. This Refund Policy outlines the terms under which tuition refunds may be issued.
Tuition Assurance
All prepaid tuition is held in a segregated internal account until services are rendered. Apex Drivers School is bonded as required by the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), ensuring that client funds are protected in the event of service disruption.
Refund Eligibility
Clients are eligible for a full or partial refund under the following conditions:
- Instructor Unavailability: If Apex Drivers School is unable to complete scheduled lessons due to instructor absence or operational disruption.
- Client Withdrawal: If a client voluntarily withdraws from the program before any services are rendered.
- Medical or Emergency Circumstances: If a client is unable to continue due to documented medical or emergency reasons.
Refund Terms
- Full Refund: Issued if no lessons have been completed and the client withdraws within 7 calendar days of payment. If paid by credit card, 2.5% payment processing fees are deducted from the refund.
- Partial Refund: Prorated based on the number of completed lessons. Classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel sessions are calculated separately (Classroom fee $200, each (2) hours) behind-the-wheel lesson $150)
- Non-Refundable Fees: $50 seat fee if the classroom reservation is cancelled within (48) hours of the start time and date.
Refund Process
To initiate a refund request, clients must:
- Submit a written request to info@apexdriversschool.org with their full name, enrollment date, and reason for withdrawal.
- Allow up to 10 business days for review and processing.
- Refunds will be issued via the original payment method unless otherwise requested.
Exceptions
Refunds will not be issued for:
- Missed lessons without 24-hour notice
- Failure to meet DMV eligibility requirements
- Dismissal due to misconduct or safety violations
